Kakkyo Yama is one of the floats in Kyoto’s Gion Festival Early Festival (Saki Matsuri). It is based on the Chinese classic Twenty-four Filial Exemplars, depicting the story of Guo Ju (Kakkyo), whose devotion to his mother became a symbol of filial piety.
The float portrays the famous scene in which Guo Ju discovers a pot of gold while digging a pit. According to the legend, the treasure was a heavenly reward for his devotion, allowing his family to live together in peace.
