Yobo-ji Temple

Yobo-ji Temple is one of the principal temples of the Nichiren School of Buddhism, located in Kyoto’s Sakyo Ward. Surrounded by a quiet residential neighborhood, the temple offers a peaceful setting where visitors can experience more than seven centuries of Buddhist history.

History

The origins of Yobo-ji date back to 1294, when Nichizo, one of Nichiren’s leading disciples, established a temple in Kyoto to spread the teachings of Nichiren Buddhism.

Throughout its long history, the temple was relocated and rebuilt several times following fires and periods of conflict. Despite these hardships, it continued to flourish and today serves as one of the head temples of the Nichiren School.
