Raigo-in Temple

Raigo-in Temple is a peaceful Tendai Buddhist temple located just east of Sanzen-in in the rural village of Ohara. History

Raigo-in was founded in 1109 by the monk Ryōnin, who later established the Yūzū Nenbutsu school of Buddhism. The temple served as an important place for Buddhist practice and chanting, contributing to Ohara’s reputation as a center of religious learning.

The Main Hall houses several significant Buddhist statues, including an Important Cultural Property depicting Yakushi Nyorai (the Medicine Buddha). These sculptures, dating from the late Heian and Kamakura periods, reflect the rich artistic and religious traditions that flourished in Ohara.
