Founded in 1823, Miyawaki Baisen-an is one of Kyoto’s most distinguished Kyosensu (Kyoto folding fan) specialists. For more than 200 years, the shop has preserved the refined craftsmanship of Kyoto’s traditional folding fans while continuing to create designs suited to modern life.
The shop’s unique name, Baisen-an, was bestowed by the celebrated Japanese painter Tomioka Tessai. Inside, visitors will find a wide selection of folding fans ranging from everyday accessories to elegant pieces used in tea ceremony, Noh theater, and traditional Japanese dance.
