Toei Kyoto Studio Park is Japan’s premier samurai movie theme park, where visitors can step into authentic Edo-period streets used in the filming of countless historical movies and television dramas. Located beside the historic Toei Kyoto Studios, the park offers a unique combination of real film sets, live entertainment, and interactive attractions.
Guests can stroll through traditional townscapes, watch exciting ninja and samurai performances, dress up in period costumes, and occasionally even witness professional film or television productions taking place. It is one of Kyoto’s most popular attractions for families, movie fans, and international visitors alike.
History
Toei Kyoto Studio Park opened in 1975 as a way of sharing Japan’s rich film heritage with the public. It is directly connected to Toei Kyoto Studios, established in 1926, one of Japan’s most important film studios and the home of countless classic jidaigeki (period dramas).
Many famous television series and films—including long-running samurai dramas—have been produced here. By preserving and opening these authentic film sets, the park allows visitors to experience the atmosphere of traditional Japan while learning about the history of Japanese cinema. In recent years, the park has also introduced attractions based on anime, superhero productions, and modern digital technology, attracting visitors of all ages.
